Thoughts on Paris

Angel of femininity and graceThe thing about attending conferences is that catching up with the real world can be a shock. I didn’t even know about what happened in Paris until someone mentioned it on the airport shuttle on the way home from my events this past weekend.

Needless to say it was sobering.

My very first reaction was to tune out the rest of the conversation, close my eyes, and send love and light to the people of that beautiful city.

And as I did so, I sensed that I was not the only one. I could feel a tremendous tidal wave of love directed towards Paris from all over the earth. The city glowed like a beacon – truly a City of Light.

Then a strange thought came to me. It was, that somehow, the Earth needed healing in that spot. Needed it strong, and fast, and now. That the acts of violence happened in order to call attention to that place.

I hope this does not sound disrespectful to the people who died in Paris last week, or their families. The way I understand it, these people are not victims, but spiritual heroes.

It pains me to hear people reacting to the violence with thoughts of hate and revenge. I know it’s a natural reaction for many people but as they say in Unity, “thoughts kept in mind produce after their kind.” Hate only feeds hate. Fear feeds fear.

The key to change is to think the opposite. Only Love can conquer fear and hate, not more fear and hate.

And Love IS stronger than fear.

Whenever you read this, please join me right now in sending Love to Paris, or to wherever in the world you sense is hurting. Your doing so will be felt, and it does make a difference. Let’s not let the lives of all who passed in Paris last week be lost in vain.

Love & blessings,

Christie

P.S.The angel above is another in my new Angel Prints series. She is another one of my Angel Art Readings that was created for a specific person but has universal relevance. Her name is Helena, and one of her messages is to embrace both the light and the darkness in the world with grace and love.

This week, I am donating all profits from my Etsy shop to relief efforts in Paris. My spirit animal and angel posters and prints were all created to raise the vibration of Love in your home and the world. If you would like to help me spread this message of love in this way, visit https://www.etsy.com/shop/BrightSpiritArt?ref=l2-shopheader-name

Keep it moving to stay in the flow

Goshawk watercolor paintingQuick thought for the day:

Spirit is energy. When energy moves freely through things, it tends to make them vital and alive.

If something is not working in your life, you almost certainly have some stuck energy at some level.

Try to encourage flow in your life whenever and wherever possible.

Even the little things: changing your sheets, getting up and moving every hour or so, remembering to breathe. If you keep a little altar somewhere in your home, rearrange the items on it every couple of days. And don’t forget to dust! 😉

Yes, sometimes it’s the little things that count the most.

What little things do you do to keep your energy (or the energy in your home) moving in a positive direction?

Banish insomnia now! Natural sleep aids for creative women

bear hawk and poppies spirit animal painting by Christie MichelsenEver have trouble sleeping?
It was never a problem for me when I was younger, but lately some nights it seems like I spend more time trying to sleep than actually sleeping.
Insomnia is actually a common problem for creative women. We have so much going on in our heads it’s hard to turn it all off long enough to go to sleep!
If you have trouble sleeping, too, try saying this affirmation to yourself starting about an hour or so before bedtime:  “I fall easily into deep, refreshing sleep.” It seems simplistic, but it really can help.
Besides affirmations, here are some natural sleep aids I’ve found helpful:
  • Melatonin – a safe, natural supplement that promotes restful sleep.
  • Extra magnesium, taken before bedtime.
  • Avoiding stimulants after noon. (This includes Vitamin B.)
  • Essential oils. I’ve been using Young Living’s Peace and Calming. Lavender is good for promoting sleep, too.
  • Staying off the computer before bedtime.
  • A nice warm bath.
  • Massage. Take turns with your partner. It’s relaxing for both of you!
  • Meditiation/journeying.
  • Breathing exercises. One I like is a 4/4 rhythm: breathe in for four counts, hold for four, out for four, hold out for four. Helps if you’re being kept up by a racing mind!
  • Energy work. Reiki and other energetic clearings can do wonders!
Here’s to sleeping well tonight! (And here’s to having awesome dreams!)
Oh, and if you have anything else you’d like to add to the list, I’m all ears! Share below.  🙂

Angry? Nervous? Stressed? A simple technique to help

U turn signAnger, impatience, resentment, nervousness…These nasty emotions have their place. They help us realize that something doesn’t feel right, and may need to be changed.
But if they are allowed to persist, they become the psychic equivalent of speed or cocaine.
They may give you a momentary rush.
They might even make you think you feel more alive, in a perverse sort of way.
But most of the time, they just poison your system.
And they can definitely turn your day – or your life – into a train wreck. Not to mention the days and lives of everyone around you.
The problem is that fighting them often backfires. You can’t fight fire with fire. And trying to “stuff it” can lead to an explosion.
What to do instead?
Think the opposite.
Imagine something that reminds you of peace or joy. Holding a little kitten, for example, or a baby’s first smile. Or, think of somethingbaby smile

you are especially grateful for.

Hold that thought in your mind (excuse yourself if you have to) until you can calm down and deal with the situation from a more balanced perspective.
Of course, if you have a lot of anger, fear, or resentment, you may need to use other techniques, too. But this is a simple one that can be extremely effective, especially for those ‘little’ annoyances that put a crimp in your day.
Try it, and let me know how it works for you!
