Thoughts on Paris

Angel of femininity and graceThe thing about attending conferences is that catching up with the real world can be a shock. I didn’t even know about what happened in Paris until someone mentioned it on the airport shuttle on the way home from my events this past weekend.

Needless to say it was sobering.

My very first reaction was to tune out the rest of the conversation, close my eyes, and send love and light to the people of that beautiful city.

And as I did so, I sensed that I was not the only one. I could feel a tremendous tidal wave of love directed towards Paris from all over the earth. The city glowed like a beacon – truly a City of Light.

Then a strange thought came to me. It was, that somehow, the Earth needed healing in that spot. Needed it strong, and fast, and now. That the acts of violence happened in order to call attention to that place.

I hope this does not sound disrespectful to the people who died in Paris last week, or their families. The way I understand it, these people are not victims, but spiritual heroes.

It pains me to hear people reacting to the violence with thoughts of hate and revenge. I know it’s a natural reaction for many people but as they say in Unity, “thoughts kept in mind produce after their kind.” Hate only feeds hate. Fear feeds fear.

The key to change is to think the opposite. Only Love can conquer fear and hate, not more fear and hate.

And Love IS stronger than fear.

Whenever you read this, please join me right now in sending Love to Paris, or to wherever in the world you sense is hurting. Your doing so will be felt, and it does make a difference. Let’s not let the lives of all who passed in Paris last week be lost in vain.

Love & blessings,

Christie

P.S.The angel above is another in my new Angel Prints series. She is another one of my Angel Art Readings that was created for a specific person but has universal relevance. Her name is Helena, and one of her messages is to embrace both the light and the darkness in the world with grace and love.

This week, I am donating all profits from my Etsy shop to relief efforts in Paris. My spirit animal and angel posters and prints were all created to raise the vibration of Love in your home and the world. If you would like to help me spread this message of love in this way, visit https://www.etsy.com/shop/BrightSpiritArt?ref=l2-shopheader-name

When you never tell girls they can’t, part 2

Medicine bear drawingThe weekend before last I was in Milwaukee for a holistic fair. While there I had the pleasure to meet Dennis (Rocky) King, a medicine healer from the Bear Clan of the Oneida nation.

I’ve had a lot of bears come into my life lately – in dreams, in my art, and, just a few weeks ago, a bear crossed twice in front of me while visiting my aunt’s cabin near Manistique, MI. So naturally, we got to talking.

By the end of the day, we had arranged a trade. He gave me an awesome Bear Medicine healing, and I am working on a piece of art for him, featuring Medicine Bears. (The sketch above is a preparation for the final piece, which will be in watercolor.)

So, anyway, while we were talking he told me a story about two little girls.

Rocky worked for several years as a teacher’s aide on the reservation. He had a special relationship with the kids because he would listen to them and take them seriously. But one time two little second grade girls claimed something he just couldn’t bring himself to believe.

“Rocky, we can lift you up!” they said.

You have to know Rocky. He is literally a bear of a man. Tall, and big. He has to weigh at least 250 pounds. (Here is his picture, modeling for the bear painting:)

Native American Healer“No way,” he said. “You can’t lift me up.”

“Yes, we can!” they insisted. So finally he gave in and let them try.

“They each grabbed me around one of my knees,” he told me. “I grounded myself and made myself really heavy, but they just looked at each other and said ‘one, two, three!’ and on three they lifted me straight up! I couldn’t believe it! What those two little Indian girls could do.”

He said he told one of the teachers later about it and she just looked at him and said, “Rocky, you’re so funny. Tell me another one.” But when he told his medicine man mentor, the man looked serious and said, “Well, of course. Children can do amazing things, before anyone tells them they can’t.”

When Jesus said, “become like a little child,” perhaps this is part of what he meant.

Believe in yourself. You are more powerful than you know.

Does it really matter?

My family & I took part in the Marquette, MI Climate Walk recently. It was an awareness-raising event that involved a 5 mile hike along the shoreline bike path, culminating in a little festival with info booths and live music.

Comparing notes afterwards, my husband Dan and I found that we had each been struck by a different T-shirt worn by fellow participants.

The one I saw that I just loved read: “May the Forest be With You” – a cute but profound reminder of the spiritual power of the woods.

But Dan’s favorite actually spurred him to action. It said:

“Act as though what you do matters – because it does.”

Dan’s been spending a lot of time lately researching vehicles, because ours are really at the point of needing replacement. He good-naturedly cursed that T-shirt, because it prodded his conscience into jettisoning hours worth of research on available models in favor of shopping for an electric car.

Yes, what you do does matter. And what you say. Even the T-shirt you choose to wear today could result in real change for real people.

Choose carefully.

My new hero

Who’s your hero?

I have a few. Harriet Tubman. Peace Pilgrim. My friend Lance, a Vietnam veteran who has devoted his life to serving Mother Earth. People who hear the call to a higher purpose and follow it without hesitation.

So yesterday I fond another hero. Maybe you’ve heard of him. His name is Matt Harding. He’s a kinda geeky, likeable guy who does this silly dance. Just a quirky thing of his – but take a look at the joy that follows in his wake when he follows that little voice inside him to dance, just dance!

You’ve got to click in the image below to see what I mean. I dare you to tell me it doesn’t lift your heart!

What about you? What would happen if you were to spend even 15 minutes a day just doing what comes naturally to you?

Dave the Dove

Dave the white dove

Had an awesome dove experience a couple of weekends ago.

I am a member of a healer’s group that just had a big 4-day workshop in Chicago. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend the entire session because we had to bring our exchange student, Hazuki, back down to East Lansing on Saturday and say farewell to her. 🙁 We will miss her! But after that, my daughter Aster and I boogied to Chicago to catch the last day of the Oneness Healing event.

When we got there Saturday evening, everyone was excited to tell us about an uninvited but very welcome attendee.

Dave the Dove had arrived at the hotel on Wednesday evening, at about the same time as most of the rest of the participants. Pure white but rather bedraggled, he actually entered the lobby and had to be shooed out, but then was sighted in various spots outside the hotel before finally settling in to keep vigil just outside our conference room.

He seemed to like the energy, because he stayed there through the entire weekend. By the time I got there he was looking splendid and healthy with his shining white feathers and ruby red feet. (Was it the positive vibes we were sending out or simply the crumbs one of our members threw him each morning? Guess we’ll never know, but I suspect a piece of each.)

Why was he there? I think he carried a message of hope as the world makes the shift into a higher spiritual plane.

But Dave surely was there also for a specific person in the group. During one of our meditations three of us (myself and two others out of only a dozen or so healers) independently had white dove imagery come in for this person. And she told us afterward that the dove does have special significance for her.

When the time came for us to leave, we looked around for Dave to say goodbye, but he was nowhere to be found. Perhaps he knew his purpose there had been fulfilled.

Thank you, Dave. Your presence this weekend was truly treasured!
